Company Profile
Europe is home to 60 million sheep, producing 180 million kilograms of wool annually, yet most of it goes unused. As synthetic fibres took over the market, and Australian Merino became the global standard, the demand for local European wool collapsed, and with it, the systems that once connected regional producers to the fashion industry. Erda Alpine was founded to change that.
Erda promotes the use of European wool in fashion by curating a portfolio of high-quality yarns that celebrate regional character, craftsmanship, and sustainability.
By fostering connection and collaboration between farmers, spinners, manufacturers, and brands, we are building a new ecosystem for local wool within the global fashion landscape. Our goal is to create a transparent value chain that links the premium design industry with locally sourced, natural fibres.
We represent independent spinners and wool producers across the continent - from the mountains of Austria to the plains of Puglia, each working with the breeds and traditions of their region. We work exclusively with 100% wool, sourced and processed entirely within Europe.
Wool is one of the oldest and most considered materials in the world. It is renewable and biodegradable. It regulates temperature, resists odour, and wears with character over time. Each European breed produces a fibre shaped by its landscape, its climate, and generations of agricultural knowledge; a handle, weight and texture that belong to a place.
The Erda collection is built around two ranges. The Signature range brings together permanent yarns from France, Italy, Spain, Germany and the UK, carrying over season to season. The Seasonal range introduces a single European breed each season - small batch, specific to place, and limited in availability.
Alongside the yarn portfolio, Erda Alpine offers consultancy to brands, institutions, and suppliers working to understand, source, or develop European wool within their own practice.
