The central theme of the new Spazio Ricerca, which encapsulates the Pitti Filati Fall/Winter 2027/2028 trends, curated as always by Angelo Figus, Carrie Hollands and Manuela Sandroni, is discipline a concept that is crucial today as it embodies the tension between order and freedom, acting as a geopolitical lever, a factor of social stability, and an instrument of economic control. Invoking it implies rigor and hierarchy, while its absence can generate chaos.

Digitalization has eroded the boundaries between working time and free time, making individuals constantly reachable and productive. Similarly, the fluidity of modern age has dissolved the institutions that once mapped out stable life paths: this apparent freedom often produces precariousness, anxiety, and the need for self-discipline without solid external references. Our times are therefore post-disciplinary: power no longer operates through prohibition, but through the seduction of “being able to.”
In this fragmented and distracted context, discipline becomes indispensable for maintaining focus, turning goals into results, and managing stress, time, and emotions. It is not a restriction, but a tool of conscious freedom, capable of aligning daily actions with long-term objectives, maintaining quality and continuity even in difficult moments. It is the bridge between desire and realization.

The main themes: Dressage is the discipline of total presence; Reining, or Western riding, counters modern frenzy with calm and inner control; Show Jumping restores the concept of limits and real risk.

DRESSAGE

The first theme merges the most elegant and formal atmospheres of the discipline, reinterpreting classics in a new refined and formal proposal composed of elements of great quality and precision. The colors of the most iconic horses and those of formal riding attire are reimagined in a new contemporary classic, through vertical designs inspired by braided manes and tails, saddle pads, and the most iconic and elegant details of European riding.

REINING

The second theme blends the country atmospheres of Western riding with the suggestions of American arts and crafts motifs. A sense of wild nature merges with the spectacle of more intricate patterns drawn from competitive Western wear. The coat patterns of American Quarter Horses suggest new spotted effects combined with the geometric designs of quilts, mixing elements of denim, leather — especially suede — flannel, cotton, and wool, in a rich and compelling hybrid with a highly diversified hand.

OBSTACLE

The third theme fuses the more athletic and signal-driven atmospheres of the discipline, pairing the obstacles with a particularly vibrant color palette inspired by colorful competition equipment and technical outdoor equestrian apparel. Chromatic energy and passion combine with a technical vision of fibers and knits, giving rise to a theme characterized by the reinvention of stripes and color blocking. Obstacles thus become a playful and positive pretext for a new contemporary, design-driven sportswear aesthetic.
