Company Profile
Mohair South Africa, a non-profit organisation, is the collective voice of the South African mohair industry. We support our dedicated producers and farmworkers, bringing together the entire farm-to-fashion supply chain - from brokers, buyers, and processors to manufacturers and brands - in our shared commitment to mohair. We strive to cultivate a shared sense of purpose across the industry through open communication and collaboration.
Mohair, the fleece of the Angora goat, is one of the world’s most ancient, exclusive, and sustainable natural fibres. Mohair South Africa proudly promotes these qualities worldwide. We aim to inspire and educate global consumers about mohair's unique African heritage, versatility, and durability and our ongoing sustainability initiatives by participating in industry events and strategic partnerships with like-minded designers and brands looking for sustainable material solutions.
As custodians of the land, South African mohair producers are devoted to environmental sustainability and responsible farming practices. Mohair South Africa works closely with producers to support them in compliance with the Responsible Mohair Standard (RMS), which recognises their ethical and sustainable practices encompassing animal welfare, social responsibility, and environmental stewardship. Together, we strive to protect and enhance the natural resources on our farms for future generations.
At Mohair South Africa, we believe in the transformative power of knowledge, continuous improvement, and innovation. Through comprehensive farm-level research and development, we refine production methods and enhance fibre properties, driving progress and innovation within the industry. Our goal is to shape the future of mohair, ensuring its sustainability and relevance for generations to come.
Education is at the heart of our mission. Mohair South Africa is dedicated to empowering the next generation of designers, farmers, agricultural specialists, veterinarians, and educators. By supporting educational programs worldwide, we hope to cultivate diverse talent and foster the continued success of the mohair industry across continents.
